THE PEOPLE'S STORY
Thelma is living alone in a small town in Nebraska. She is a diabetic and relies on a wheelchair to get around. Her social security check is barely enough to cover the rent on her small house and she has no means to make a living. Thelma's husband, Rolland, a long-time carpenter and provider for the family, passed away last year leaving Thelma alone and in a state of depression. At one time Thelma was a vibrant woman who cared for others. Although her and her husband had no children, it was not uncommon for the couple to care for the small children in their modest neighborhood. Thelma is now dependent on the kindness of others to help her meet her monthly bills and pay for her diabetes medicine.

DEBBIE RIPPLEY is a volunteer with St. Ann Church in Crete, Nebraska. She is also a graduate student at the University of Nebraska majoring in Mass Communications. Debbie met Thelma on a church mission to feed the poor and elderly last November and the two get together every week. Debbie is seeking donations to help Thelma with her monthly bills and healthcare costs.
